Google Analytics 4 – September 2022 Recap

Google Analytics 4, Measure the effectiveness of your website

September 15, 2022

What is Google Analytics 4?

Analytics is a service that allows you to track how visitors your website, and gauge the effectiveness of the site.

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is available now, and will be the only option as of July 1, 2023.

What should I track?

Well… it depends! GA4 comes with basic reports already built in. Depending on your goals, they may be enough. In short, you should track the metrics that match the goals of the website. Do you, or your client want

  • More visitors?
  • More purchases?
  • More subscribers?
  • More app installs?
  • More watched videos?
  • More downloads?
  • More time on the site?
  • More bookings?
  • More link clicks?
  • Some combination of the above

Also important things to the function of the website and marketing campaigns are

  • Location of visitor
  • Abandoned checkout/buy process
  • Tech/Browser used
  • Screen resolution
  • Referrer

When Can I get started?

Now!

If you’re currently using Universal Analytics, run them together so you can see how some of the differences in recording affect your numbers.

If you haven’t been using UA (Universal Analytics) you can install both, but unless you want to learn both systems, only installing Google Analytics 4 is sufficient.

Great! How do I get started with GA4?

Head on over to Google Analytics and follow the guide to connect your site.

Divi makes it super easy to add the tracking code. Go to Divi Theme Options, and then the Integration tab, and paste the code from Google. If you prefer you can also use 3rd Party plugins or Google Site Kit plugin.

Overwhelmed with all the options and settings?

We highly recommend the Tutorial. It’ll guide you through what’s new, as well as all the different reports, setting custom Events, and much more. There is a lot of information, and a lot of great suggestions for different types of businesses.

Questions from the Meetup

How can we use GA4 or Tag Manager with WooCommerce

There is both a free and pro version of a plugin in the Woo & WordPress repositories. This guide will also help you get started with connecting the two.
